About AppFreeGame

Our mission

Most mobile games today fall into one of two annoying camps. Either they require an installation from an app store — eating up storage, asking for permissions you don’t want to grant, and demanding updates you didn’t ask for — or they live entirely on a server and force you to stay online while you play, which is a problem on flights, trains, in tunnels, in lifts, and anywhere with patchy mobile coverage.

AppFreeGame exists because we think there’s a better way. Our mission is simple: build great little games that need no installation and keep working when you go offline. Open your browser, click play, wait for the game to load once, and then enjoy it as long as you like — on the bus, on a flight, in the middle of nowhere — without ever opening an app store and without worrying about your data plan.

How it works

When you visit a game on AppFreeGame for the first time, your browser downloads the game’s code in the background — usually in less than a second. After that, the game is cached on your device. You can close the tab, lose your network connection, fly across an ocean, and come back to that same game in the same browser, and it will load instantly from the cache and run without any internet connection.

We use modern web technology called a Progressive Web App (PWA), which is supported by every major browser today. There’s no app store, no installer, no admin permission needed. Your phone treats the games like any other webpage — except they happen to work offline.

If you want, you can even “install” AppFreeGame to your home screen. On most modern phones, your browser will offer an “Add to Home Screen” option after you’ve visited a few times. Tapping it gives you an icon you can launch like a regular app — but it’s still just the website, still tiny, still offline-capable, and still doesn’t need any app store.

What we offer

We focus on classic games that have stood the test of time — puzzles, logic challenges, casual time-killers — built with a modern, mobile-friendly interface. Our current line-up includes:

  • Minesweeper — the classic mine-flagging puzzle, with three difficulties and a personal-best timer.
  • Sudoku — uniquely solvable puzzles in three difficulties, with mistake tracking, same-number highlighting, and a clean tile-style board.

More games are on the way. If you have a request for a classic game we should add, drop us a note via the Contact page.

Free, ad-supported, no tracking-for-tracking’s-sake

The games are free to play. We pay for the servers that store accounts and leaderboards by showing some advertising on the site, provided by Google AdSense. We don’t track you across the web for our own purposes, we don’t sell your data, and we collect the absolute minimum information needed to run the service. If you want the full picture, our Privacy Policy spells out every piece of data we touch and why.

Creating an account is optional — you can play any game as a guest without signing up. If you do sign up, your scores can appear on the public leaderboard and you can see your personal best across devices.

Who’s behind this

AppFreeGame is operated by Liew Kian Yang, a developer based in Malaysia who got tired of installing yet another app for a five-minute game. The site is a labour of love — built to scratch a personal itch, then polished enough that other people might enjoy it too. If you’d like to get in touch, see our Contact page.
